Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Mia

Vampire parties are wild, and that is putting it mildly. Wolf parties are wild too, but not like a vampire party. You have to remember, vampires are eternal. I have only gone to a few vampire parties, and each time I went was with Jasmine and Ryan.

Ryan’s best friend is a vampire. Charlie is a nice enough vampire and nice to look at, but he is not my type at all. Ryan has tried to talk me into going on a date with Charlie several times, but every time I give him a firm no. I am not interested in any wolves or any vampires.

I have thought about dating a vampire before, so it is not off the table. It goes back to the fact I like my freedom. I don’t want any man telling me what to do. I might meet someone someday that changes my mind, but I doubt it. Can I just grow old alone?

My dad keeps trying to get me to pick a mate. He wants me to be happy. I understand that, but it is just not for me yet. I will give in and marry someday, but for now I am going to live my dull, boring life to the fullest.

We get to the vampire party late. A lot of our pack is already there, and a few other packs. I spot Sonya. She is the daughter of an Alpha too. We have a lot in common. Her father is pushing her to get married too.

“Hey,” I walk over and give her a hug.

“Hey, Mia, it is good to see you,” Sonya said. She looks away for a moment and smiles at someone behind me. I look behind me. I see a figure approaching us.

“Who is that?” I ask Sonya.

“That is my mate Eric. I finally gave in and I am happy,” Sonya said. I am not sure if she is just saying that or if she is really happy.

I smile at her and watch as Eric walks up and puts his arm around her. Now that he is closer, I realize he is not a wolf. Sonya’s mate is a vampire. “When is the big day?” I ask. I am still wrapping my head around the fact that Sonya’s mate is a vampire. Her father is the Alpha. I am surprised he allowed this. I am not sure my father would allow me to date a vampire, much less marry one.

There are a different set of rules for the daughter of the Alpha. We are to marry someone in the pack with status, like a beta wolf or a warrior, someone who can protect you. I can take care of myself. I don’t need a beta wolf or anyone else looking out for me.

“July 1st. I have been planning so much. I have meant to call you several times to tell you, but planning this wedding has been a lot of pressure,” Sonya said.

I am sure it has been. The Alpha’s daughter getting married is a huge event. It is bigger than when the Alpha’s son gets married. I have never understood that. It looks like the next Alpha’s wedding would be the biggest event, but it is not.

“I would love to help,” I said. I am not sure why I offered to help. I have a lot to do for Mario and Malanie’s wedding. I hope it is only these two weddings this summer. Whenever there are a lot of weddings, my mom and dad really get on me about finding a mate.

“Thank you,” Sonya said. We hug.

“It was good to see you. I need to find Jasmine,” I said. Honestly, I was afraid Sonya might start talking about her wedding heavily, and I am not in the mood. I didn’t even want to come to this stupid party.

I went into the house. There are wolves and vampires drunk everywhere. I walk into the kitchen, looking for Jasmine and looking for a drink for myself. I don’t find Jasmine, but I find alcohol. I grab a beer. When I turn around to continue to look for Jasmine, I slam right into a chest. I look up, and it is Zion.

“Sorry,” I said. I smile. Why does he have to be so damn fine? I bet he is an egotistical asshole.

“I don’t think I am hurt or anything,” Zion said. He smiles at me, and I melt. I would definitely go out on a date with him. Just a date, nothing more. I don’t want anything more, but maybe a friend with benefits or something. I sound like a whore. I am not sure what my father would think if I started dating a vampire.

“Good. I lost the wolves I came with,” I said.

“Well, then, maybe you should stick with me until you find your friends,” Zion said. Is he flirting with me?

“Okay,” I said. It didn’t take much to convince me to stay close to him.

“Let’s go outside. It is too rowdy in here,” Zion said.

“I agree,” I said. Zion took my hand and led me through the wild crowd and out the back door. There is a small garden with a patio.

“No one will come back here,” Zion said.

“I thought you were helping me find my friends,” I said.

“No, I actually wanted to get you alone. Jasmine and Ryan are in the house, I promise. I hope you’re not mad,” Zion said.

He wanted to get me alone. Why?

I sit down in one of the chairs on the patio. Zion follows me. I look over at him. His long black hair and crystal blue eyes reflect beautifully in the moonlight.

“Why?” I asked.

Zion looks at me, and I swear I want to melt. “I have a confession. I asked Jasmine to bring you tonight. I wanted to get to know you better,” Zion said.

Zion leans in close to me. His soft lips touch mine, and I melt.
