Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Mia

Jasmine and Ryan find me just as I melt into Zion. I hear Jasmine approaching me. I break free from Zion. I look into his eyes. My first thought is oh my god and my second thought is I like my freedom. I don’t think Zion is looking for a relationship, but there has been a spark between on more than one occasion.

“What is going on here?” Jasmine teases me.

“Nothing,” I said. It wasn’t nothing. It was something going on, even if I did not want to admit it. I felt something.

“We are going to head back. Are you coming with us? Or is Zion going to make sure you get home?” Ryan asks.

“She came with us. She leaves with us,” Jasmine said sternly.

Jasmine would never leave a friend behind. Considering how wild this party is I don’t want to be left behind.

Zion puts his arm around me. “Another time?” he asks. My heart leaps from my chest.

“Sure,” I said as I smiled at him.

“He could come back and hang out with us,” Ryan suggested.

That is a great idea. I bet my father would flip out if he saw me with a vampire. I have made it clear I don’t want a mate, and now I am inviting a vampire over. Maybe I am just not into wolves. Maybe it is Zion that I want. I don’t care that he is a vampire. I care about how kind he is when I see him.

Zion looks at me. He is waiting for me to invite him. I take a deep breath and try to get the courage up to invite him over. I think about my father. I think about too much. It is just one night. It is not like I am jumping into bed with him, or declaring he is my mate. It is just an invite to hang out with me and some of my friends.

“Zion, I would love for you to come over and hang out. We can have a drink,” I said. I don’t drink a lot, but tonight I need a drink. I wait for him to answer.

“Sure. I would love to come over,” Zion said.

We shifted and ran to the party. I know vampires can run fast, but can he keep up with us?

“We can take my SUV. No need in shifting and me trying to catch up,” Zion said.

He smiled at me. Is he reading my mind? Can vampires really do that? I have often wondered if that was true. If he can read my mind, then he already knows I am conflicted about him. Hopefully one of his gifts isn’t reading minds.

“Sounds good,” Ryan said. Jasmine and I agreed.

“Let's go, then,” Zion said.

We follow Zion over to a grassy lot where several cars were parked. I guess the vampires drive instead of run. I thought they were fast like us. We just shape shift and get where we need to go.

We get into a black SUV. I get into the front with Zion and Jasmine and Ryan get into the back. Zion puts on some music. It was not like anything I listen to, but it is his truck, so I am not going to try to tell him what to play.

We arrive at my house in thirty minutes. Zion parks right in front of my small house. My house is very close to the pack house, so I am sure everyone sees Zion pulling up and going into my house. I can’t wait to hear the rumors this is going to start. It is fine. Everything is fine.

Zion comes around and opens the SUV door for me to get out. Jasmine and Ryan follow us into my house. I go into the kitchen and get two headache pills. I look behind and Zion has followed me. “The vampire party was a little loud for me,” I said. I sound like wuss.

“They do get rowdy. I have heard the wolf parties get wild,” Zion said.

I laugh. “Not like vampires,”  I said.

I get a bottle of Crown Royal off the shelf in my kitchen, and grab four glasses. “Do you need ice?” I ask Zion.

He smiles at me. “No,” he answers.

He leans into me and kisses me again. I swear my entire body tingles when he kisses me. I hand Zion the bottle to carry into the living room. I try to compose myself, but I am just about to lose it. I think if I was left alone with Zion tonight, I would sleep with him.

Zion sets the bottle down on the table in my living room. I bring the glasses. I pour the four of us a drink. We start drinking, laughing, and talking about everything. Zion is actually funny and fun to be around. I catch myself thinking naughty thoughts about him.

There can never be anything between Zion and me. I am the daughter of an Alpha, and his sister is the Queen of the vampires. How would this even work? Could it work? My dad would lose his mind. I think for a moment. Would he lose it? I need to calm down; we are just having a drink, not picking our wedding rings.

We drink the entire bottle. I am beyond drunk. Jasmine and Ryan go into my spare bedroom to sleep off the crown. I clean up our mess. Zion helps me. He is not even drunk. I am.

“Alcohol doesn’t work on vampires the way it works on others,” Zion said.

“Why did you drink?” I ask him.

“I can get drunk. It just takes a lot,” Zion said.

“Either way. It is my house and my rules. If you drink, you don’t drive,” I said.

Zion places his hand on my face and leans in to kiss me. His other hand is at my hip, pulling my body closer to him. “My bedroom is upstairs,” I said.

He takes my hand and leads me up the stairs to my bedroom. I am going to sleep with Zion tonight.
