Six months later.
Rain tapped against the windshield.
Daniel drove through the darkness.
Mara slept in the passenger seat.
Michael was reading in the back.
The radio played softly.
For once, there was no emergency.
No screaming.
No demons.
No ghosts.
Just the road.
Daniel reached for his coffee.
Then noticed something on the passenger seat.
A black book.
He stared at it.
Mara woke.
"What is that?"
Daniel didn't answer.
Michael leaned forward.
"That's impossible."
The book was old.
Weathered.
Familiar.
But different.
There was no symbol on the cover.
No lock.
No markings.
Just three words stamped into the leather.
THE HUNTER'S BLACK BOOK.
Daniel slowly picked it up.
He opened it.
The pages were blank.
All except the final one.
A sentence appeared.
THE END IS NOT THE END.
Daniel stared.
Mara reached for her weapon.
"Should we burn it?"
Daniel thought about it.
Then smiled.
"No."
Mara looked at him.
"Why not?"
Daniel closed the book.
"Because this time, we know what it is."
Michael raised an eyebrow.
"What is it?"
Daniel looked through the windshield.
A pair of headlights appeared in the distance.
Another car.
Following them.
Daniel smiled.
"A warning."
The headlights disappeared.
Daniel kept driving.
The black book rested beside him.
Silent.
Waiting.
But it no longer controlled him.
He controlled it.
And somewhere in the darkness beyond the road, something ancient opened its eyes.
Daniel didn't know what waited ahead.
He didn't know how many monsters were still hiding.
He didn't know how many hunters would come after him.
But he knew one thing.
The darkness had always belonged to someone.
Now it belonged to the hunters.
Daniel stepped on the gas.
The road stretched endlessly ahead.
Mara smiled.
Michael closed his book.
And the three hunters disappeared into the night.
The hunt would continue.
But this story was over.
