Brurock had sent some men back to make it look like they had left. They hid their encampment, hoping they stayed out of the Porpura guard’s way. He sat in a cave eating some meat when Druya walked in.
“General, we haven’t had any scent of them. I think we need to expand our search, get closer to Erafla,” Druya said. Brurock found this interesting.
“Why do you say that? Why risk getting found out?” Brurock said. This made Druya show his teeth.
“There have been signs of them. Old campfires and traps for food. They’re moving towards Erafla. The problem is that we can not find their scent. They are masking it somehow,” Druya said. This made Brurock think. He was told of magic long ago that could mask scents. It was the Piskal people who could do it, and for the right price, you could get the gift as well, but all that magic died with the king.
“Didn’t the Piskal king have a son?” Brurock said, Druya thought for a moment.
“Yes, but didn’t he die?” Druya said.
“I don’t think so, I think the Master has had him, hiding him,” Brurock said. He tried to figure out what to do next. If he truly was the heir to the throne, then that means he could bring back magic. That would change the whole game. Brurock knew he couldn’t hide from Shardoe any longer.
“Send a Porpura priest to Shardoe, tell him what we have found out. He would want him dead, too. We need more priests; we have to kill all of them,” Brurock said. Druya went to dispatch the priest. Brurock sat and thought for some time. He needed to find a way to kill off the Piskal people before they had a chance to regain their magic. It was always rumored that the King’s line held the power, and now Brurock had proof of it. He started to get angry when Druya walked in.
“Sir, one of the priests told me of a Porpura caravan that brings provisions to the Piskal people, and they said something is strange about these caravans, something the leader isn’t telling Shardoe. I think we should investigate it and see what the mystery is all about,” Druya said. Brurock found this to be a revelation.
“This is our way into the Piskal village. I know it is. We need to follow these caravans, send someone to spy, and find this caravan, and then we shall have answers. Send more hounds out to search for the king and the Master’s. We will come on top,” Brurock said.
