Lunae was grabbing firewood; they were almost to Erafla. As she brought it back, she saw Fulch preparing a meal for them. She noticed that the Master looked like his mind was somewhere else. Lunae thought it best to note the change, but continued on. As the food was on the fire, calmness came over them, and then the water spoke to all of them.
“Talk,” it said, scaring Fulch. He was frantic with his sword out, and the Master had to calm him down, telling him that it was the water that spoke. Once the Master got Fulch to calm down, Lunae spoke up.
“What do you think it wants us to talk about exactly?” Fulch was too upset to talk. Lunae looked at the Master, and he was smiling at her.
“We have to discuss Narutay and what we’ll do about him. If the water wants us to talk about him, then we must be close,” The Master said. The excitement of the water wore off Fulch, and he was truly engaged.
“We need to kill him,” Fulch said, anger in his voice. Lunae was surprised by this; she also noted that Fulch was becoming angrier the more he spent time here.
“Why must it all lead to death?” Lunae asked, staring at Fulch, who was annoyed by her question.
“That’s the way of the beast, we have to show them that we must be feared!” Fulch said, Lunae couldn’t believe her ears.
“Then you will become the same as the Lord of your people!” You must know better than this!” Lunae said, hoping she could get through to him. Fulch walked off huffing and puffing. Lunae looked over to the Master, and he had a concerned look on his face.
“What’s wrong with him?” Lunae asked, the Master got up, and Lunae could tell that he was listening to the water.
“Learn,” the water said to Lunae, and she knew that something important was going to happen.
“Fulch, come here and sit, that’s an order,” The Master said in a very demanding voice. Fulch looked over at the Master with rage in his eyes.
“You dare to order around a king!” Fulch yelled. Lunae didn’t know what to do; it seemed like Fulch was possessed. Then the Master controlled Fulch’s water and made him come close and sit down. Fulch was yelling at this point. Lunae started to tear up, and the Master came and put his hand on her shoulder.
“He has been poisoned. We must cleanse his water,” The Master said. Lunae was confused about how he could be poisoned; it wasn’t like any poison she knew.
“Wait, how’d he get poisoned…what type of poison? What is happening?” Lunae said. The Master shushed Lunae and told her that everything would be alright. Lunae started to see that Fulch was getting angrier and angrier. He was actually hurting himself trying to get free from the Master’s grip.
“Lunae, look at his water,” the Master said. Lunae was having a hard time concentrating. She was worried for Fulch, and that is when she started to choke on her own breath. The Master was growing impatient, and he was losing his grip on Fulch.
“Lunae, you must focus. I don’t think I can hold him much longer.” This seemed to bring reality back to Lunae; she slowed down her breathing and looked at Fulch’s water. To her surprise, she saw what seemed to be black smoke mixed in with his water, and it was growing.
“I see it and it’s growing, what do I do?” Lunae asked. The Master was relieved and took a deep breath.
“Take the water from the earth and start to clean his water. It will do what you want it to,” The Master said, hoping Lunae would make quick work of this. Lunae started to grab the water from the earth and started to filter it through Fulch. Fulch screamed in pain, which startled Lunae.
“Keep going!” The Master yelled, having trouble holding back Fulch. Lunae tried to focus over Fulch’s screams. She realized it was harder for her to do than the Master let on. The black smoke was fighting against the new water, and Fulch’s skin started to look like he was starting to burn.
“I’m killing him!” Lunae screamed. The Master was failing at holding him, and he was on his knees. Fulch started to foam at the mouth, and he slowly started to move.
“You’ll have to hold him, I can’t anymore. We must continue,” The Master said as he passed out. As Fulch lunged at Lunae, she held him.
“Fulch stop this, please!” Lunae pleaded with tears in her eyes. She was all alone, and she didn’t know if she had the strength to continue.
“I will kill you bitch!” Fulch said, and Lunae believed him. She had to try and find the strength to continue. Through her fears, she looked at Fulch’s water and continued to cleanse his water. This turned out to be more difficult than she imagined. Fulch was still able to inch his way to her, and the more she tried, the harder it was. Blood started to come out of her nose, and her head was pounding. Fulch was screaming, and his skin started to smoke. Lunae was full blown crying at this point. Finally, she was at the last bit of black smoke, and Fulch had passed out. The fear of passing out herself was very close; she finished up and then let the darkness take over her.
