Chapter 43

End Of The Line

Brurock came upon the palace and knew that his father was going to reek of death; he was trying to prepare himself. He walked slowly, trying to contain his rage, just like his father had tried to teach him over the years. He was never a good student, which aggrieved his father. Brurock was at the door, and he took a deep breath before knocking.

“Enter!” Turock said. Brurock entered and saw his father lying in his bed. Turock couldn’t really see anymore and was trying to smell who walked in.

“Boy, is that you?” he said. Brurock didn’t say anything while standing at the edge of the bed. Turock was not amused.

“Listen here boy, I have changed my mind. The time for war is over. This madness that has blinded our people must come to an end. My father, on his deathbed, said the same thing, and I did not listen, heed my words son! There is something wrong with us. We need to leave the other species alone, and we must find our way back to the water. Do you hear me son?” Turock said. Rage was building up inside Brurock, and he couldn’t understand what his father was talking about.

“Father, I think madness has taken over your brain. You speak nonsense, I will not go along with your plans,” he said. Turock had a feeling, and he knew what was going to happen next.

“Then I will put a stopper to all things, recall all our soldiers, and strip you of your title,” Turock said. Brurock heard of the death sickness, the one that’s filled with compassion and regret. He didn’t think it would happen to his father though.

“Father, you must see the light. We are to rule and concur the lesser species. That has been your goal since the beginning,” Brurock said. Turock lifted his hand for Brurock to take, but he would not.

“Listen to me, my son, go back to the old ways we shall see the waters return. The girl is the key. She will bring us back to life,” Turock said. Brurock couldn’t handle this anymore; he would rather be dead than let his father let the lesser species win. He came over to his father’s side and put a knife to his throat, and Turock grabbed it, and Brurock pressed it into his neck. Turock flailed, trying to stop Brurock from killing him, but to no avail. Once he was dead, something inside Brurock broke, and he knew he’d never be the same again.

Brurock walked out of his father’s room and told the guard that his father was dead. The rest of the generals called a meeting and congratulated him on becoming king. There would be no ceremony; they were at war. Brurock called for the whole army to be immobilized, ready to go at a moment's notice. He was dead inside, and all he wanted was to kill every single person, and now it was aimed at Lunae.
