Chapter 41

SV40

"24. Let It Go--The Imperials"

She nodded. Yeah, that was the general direction her intuition had led her in... The song opened with an airy but suspenseful note, accompanied by a low rumbling sound that echoed the stirring in her soul.

Oh tonight, I can see it / It's written on your face / You've been hurtin' for so long / It won't go away / Can't get it right, sweet forgiveness / Just what would it take? / But the debt has been cancelled / When you find the faith

There's something you should know / It's only when you let it go / Only then forgiveness flows / On a cross the price was paid / Only when you let Him know / Only when your life He holds / Will you finally find your way

You've been tryin' on your own now / Workin' overtime, yeah / One step up, two steps backward / You say you're doin' fine / Don't kid yourself on your own strength / Just look what you have found / All the pain you've been holdin' / It's tine to set it down

...

When you care for yourself / And your hope's up on the shelf / And you search in your mind / A voice deep down inside / You should let it go...

Of course...the pain. It had become such a constant over the years that she could scarcely imagine life without it. Hammered in by pop culture and school curricula, irritated by annoyances she had been taught to amplify, it had buried itself deep and throbbed with such regularity as to be indistinguishable from her heartbeat. Hope fluttered within her, but so did fear. What would it mean to let it go? How could she do it?
