Chapter 3

Uncomfortable Drive

Clyde turned the radio up. It was a habit.

His wife turned it off, and the two sat in silence for a while as he continued to drive.

“It sure is pretty out today,” Clyde said.

There was no response, and he didn’t expect one. She was really mad.

“I want you to keep an open mind about this,” Clyde said.

“I want you to jump out of the car while we’re going 55 mph,” his wife said, without emotion.

More silence.

Clyde turned the radio on.

His wife turned it off.

Clyde sighed. “That was Billy Joel. You like Billy Joel.”

“And you apparently like women you’ve been secretly seeing before work.”

“Look, her name is Princess, and she needs…”

“I don’t want to hear it.”

Silence.
