Chapter 22

The Plot Thickens

Brurock felt defeated; he had Fulch and Lunae within his grasp, and they slipped away. What he did not understand was how Fulch was able to make the water bend to his will. He was about to burst with anger when Druya came in.

“We have found the Master. He is dead,” Druya said. This made Brurock very happy.

“That pompous stiff is finally gone!” Brurock said. Druya came up to him with a skull filled with grog. Brurock took it gleefully.

“This is cause for celebration,” Druya said. Brurock took a mouthful, it dripped from the side of his mouth, and let out a howl, which made the hounds go nuts. Druya chuckled at this and drank too. Brurock was consumed with happiness until a thought popped into his head.

“There are two Masters now,” Brurock said. This confused Druya since he wasn’t there during the attack.

“What do you mean?” Druya said. Brurock crushed the skull in his hand and slammed it down on the table.

“The Piskal, he took the Master’s power, he was able to control the water. A Piskal, a master! This is not good. We need to kill them, but how?” Brurock said. Druya was thinking, he was more clever than Brurock.

“We use Shardoe,” Druya said. This took Brurock aback.

“But I thought you didn’t trust him,” Brurock said. Druya went to the entrance of the tent and pulled down the cloth. He came back and started talking in a whisper.

“Shardoe has the power like the Masters; surely he could take one of them out. We just need them to fight each other, and we kill whoever is left,” Druya said. Brurock was contemplating this.

“We need to be there so when the time comes and whoever is left standing is worn out, we strike, but what about the priests?” Brurock said.

“I’ll put a man on each one so when the time comes, we’ll slit their throats after it’s done,” Druya said. Brurock put his hand on Druya’s shoulder; he was pleased.

“Also, the priest who told me about the caravan told me that there is a shipment heading out tomorrow,” Druya said. Brurock gleamed his teeth.

“You are full of good news today, Druya! Send someone to spy so we can follow the shipment and see where everything leads. Make the men ready,” Brurock said. Druya left, and Brurock started laughing, thrilled to be going on a hunt.
