Frayusha had been tailing Shardoe for some time. She knew he was up to something; she just had to prove it. Everything seemed normal, and she was about to give up when a strange priest came up to him and whispered something in his ear. Shardoe looked around, and Frayusha hid herself, and they walked into a different room. Frayusha went into the servants' hallways and found the secret entrance into the room. There she was safely hidden, and she could hear what they were saying.
“The Piskal is the rightful heir to the throne. He has been with the Master all this time. Brurock is going to go after him; he needs more priests. We cannot let him take power and restore magic,” the priest said. Shardoe, through all of this, was rattled, and he was looking more concerned by the minute. Frayusha was confused. She thought about why would Brurock need priests and why would Shardoe want the stopping of magic restored. She knew that this was the information she needed. Got you! She thought.
“This is not good, I need a way to stop them if Brurock fails…yes…yes, I’ll make the water tell them something they can’t come back from. To be seen as enemies. I have to be alone and listen in on the water; the moment will come, I’m sure of it. Send as many priests as we can. He’ll need the help…go quickly, we do not have enough time!” Shardoe said, and the priest ran to fetch more priests. Shardoe then left to go to his room. Frayusha could not follow him in there.
She needed to find her father; there were many things she needed to discuss. She went to the throne room, and he wasn’t there. She knew he had to be in the garden. She rushed down there, and sure enough, he was there sitting idly by, lost in thought.
“Father! I need to speak with you, it’s about Shardoe,” Frayusha said. Narutay could see the desperation in her eyes; something was terribly wrong. She then went on and told him everything she overheard, all the while Narutay was shaking his head.
“This is nonsense! You are so keen on making him your enemy that you dare to make up these lies!” Narutay said. This infuriated Frayusha, so she let out a scream. This shocked her father.
“And you think he’s some type of god that you can’t see anything wrong with him. He’s been manipulating us Father, for what reason I don’t know, but we are in danger. He can manipulate the water. I don’t think that makes him a friend,” Frayusha said. Narutay got up and smacked her across the face.
“No one talks to me that way, not even my own daughter. Now leave me!” Narutay said. Frayusha was angry but knew her father’s stubbornness better than anyone. She’ll need actual proof.
