Chapter 3

Off to Signuck

Fulch was shifting his feet outside the Master’s room, waiting for him to call him in. He was worried about what happened at the dinner and wondered if things were back to square one. Fulch knew that the Master fought so hard to get that treaty, and if it was ruined, then all was lost. The Master then called him in. Fulch walked into the room, and he always admired what the Master’s room looked like; it was something out of a fairy tale. There was an essence to his room that Fulch couldn’t quite detect. There were all these heads hanging over things, like trophies for the observer. There was a head of an enormous serpent of some kind above the Master’s desk. There were papers everywhere, and there was something in the corner, an orb of some kind that had blue and purple colors in it; it looked like a cloud. Fulch was staring at it, lost in thought, and it seemed to be bringing up old memories.

“Ah, I see you found the orb of memories,” The Master said. Fulch looked at the Master, trying to recall his face. Once he did, he smiled. Coming back, he remembered that he was always curious about the things the Master collected.

“Where did you get it?” Fulch said. The Master smiled and walked away. He didn’t like it when Fulch pried, and he wasn’t going to let him know this one.

“We need to leave the temple, Lunae can’t know. We are meeting with the Narutay; he has some concerns that need alleviating,” the Master said. Fulch wanted to protest, but he could tell that the Master was in no mood. They walked to the main hall, and the Master brought out his pitcher and poured a puddle.

“Are we going to the Porpuraians' planet?” Fulch asked. The Master looked at him and shook his head.

“No, my boy, you aren’t allowed to see it yet. I do believe soon though,” the Master said.

“I hate this part,” Fulch said, and they went through the puddle.

They came out, and Fulch immediately threw up water. The Master was looking around and seemed satisfied with where they were. Once Fulch composed himself, he looked around. They were on some desolate planet. It seemed that war had taken over the planet, and there were ruins everywhere. Vegetation took over everything. This world has been taken back, Fulch thought. They walked towards an enormous building that had pillars with unique carvings. Fulch touched them and was amazed by the craftsmanship.

“Where are we?” Fulch asked. The Master smiled at him and beckoned him towards the door of the building, and it seemed somewhat still usable.

“We are on the planet of the Signuck people,” the Master said. This confused Fulch.

“Why are we here?” Fulch said. The Master was about to speak when Narutay showed up. Fulch quickly made himself small and didn’t look him in the eye. Narutay didn’t pay any attention to him. He straightened himself up and brushed back his blue hair.

“Master, so good you have come, I need to speak with you…in private,” Narutay said, looking at Fulch. Fulch then dismissed himself from the building. The Master waited for Fulch to leave before giving his undivided attention to Narutay.

“Now tell me what all is this about?” the Master said. Narutay stood there, his face masked of all emotions, and he sighed.

“What is this secret deal between you and the Rhudon people?” Narutay asked. This made the Master uneasy. He didn’t know how he could possibly know.

“I assure you, my friend, there is no deal. Where did you get this information?” the Master said. This made Narutay shift in his feet.

“It’s no matter, as long as you say there is no deal, then I’ll believe you. There is another matter I must bring up. The Piskalian caravan of goods keeps getting raided. Frayusha thinks it’s a faction of the Piskal, trying to upset things for the Lord. I think it’s the Rhudons. I need you to handle the situation. The balance between the Piskals and us is very fragile, and this is hurting us,” Narutay said. The Master thought about this, and he seemed not too concerned, which irritated Narutay.

“This problem will soon be fixed, trust me,” the Master said. Narutay didn’t seem convinced.

“How do you know?” Narutay asked. The Master came up to him and put his hand on his shoulder.

“Trust in the water,” the Master said. Narutay nodded and started to walk away, but soon turned around.

“Who was the girl at the dinner?” Narutay asked. The Master smiled.

“In due time, you’ll know,” the Master said.

“She is the one, is she not?” Narutay said. The Master just nodded. He waited for Narutay to leave before calling Fulch. He came as ordered, and the Master had a grim look on his face.

“Things sure are interesting,” the Master said. Fulch smiled and agreed, knowing that if he questioned him, he wouldn’t get an answer. Once Narutay was sure gone, the Master started looking around.

“What are we looking for?” Fulch asked. The Master seemed annoyed by this.

“I told you we’re looking for the piece of eminence,” the Master said. Fulch, knowing full well he never said that, started looking around. Even though he had no idea what he was looking for. This happened multiple times when they were out; he would have to guess. They looked for some time, but nothing was found. It was just a bunch of rubble.

“It’s not here. This is the one thing that can show her identity,” the Master said. Fulch then realized he was talking about Lunae. He came over to the Master and smiled.

“We’ll find it, it’s only a matter of time,” Fulch said, which seemed to brighten the Master. They walked on an old road which was barely visible. Then they were standing in front of another building.

“This is the old library. This place was said to hold many secrets,” the Master said. Fulch was enamored by the look of the building. Everything here was built to last and done with great care, Fulch noticed. They went inside and started to look around. There were fragments of a lost library; Fulch dared not touch anything. He stared at an enormous door that had no way of opening. The Master was getting more upset.

“It has to be around here somewhere; the histories of this world never mention that it left,” the Master said. Fulch came up behind him, and the Master looked at him. Fulch gave a smile, and the Master put his hand on his shoulder. He then grabbed his pitcher.

“There might be some other places that we can go to, to find it. We will go, Lunae will have to entertain herself while we’re gone,” the Master said.

“So she is the one?” Fulch said. The Master nodded in agreement.

“You have been watching her for some time, remember? Did you honestly believe she was a Kalindor?” The Master said. This made Fulch blush. He had been watching Lunae grow up all the while he was growing up. She was a little older than he, and Fulch found comfort in the person the water chose to show him. Fulch had magic, but was not sure how to use it. The Master tried to show him, but he was not his father. The Master knew water magic, not this magic, Fulch often thought. He would get hints from the water here and there growing up in the temple, but it was never enough. This puddle he looked at Lunae with was one hint, but not enough to teach him how to control it.

“You won’t tell her, will you?” Fulch said. The Master smiled and poured a puddle.

“Come now boy, we have work to do,” The Master said as they went through the puddle.
