Chapter 50

SV49

"33. Overcomer--The Imperials"

When she'd had a little time to get the giggles back under control, she hit play.

Jesus said that when we pray / To believe that we receive / We can have our hearts' desires / As well as the things we need / We can speak to mountains / And they will be removed / Everything will prosper / That we set our hands to do / With God's unlimited ability / All things are possible to them that believe

Overcomer, born of God / We are joint heirs with Jesus Christ / Ruling over circumstances / Fearless in this life / Protected by our Shield of Faith / And using the power of His name / The battle's been won / And we have overcome

We're no longer children / That are driven by the wind / Strengthening the inner man / We are made complete in Him / Holding forth the Word of Life / We boldly speak the truth / And through the power of Jesus Christ / There is nothing that we can't do / If God be for us, who can stop us now / From turning this whole wide world around?...

The tune was a happy one, fitting her new mood like a glove, and the lyrics had a life of their own, carrying her almost bodily in their wake. Singing along was instinctual, almost automatic. And here at last seemed to be the answer to the question of who she really was, or at least could be. She didn't have to count scars or obsess over her skin color and the bygone accomplishments of her mortal ancestors. Why focus on that when she could be a joint heir with Jesus Christ, endowed with divine authority over every circumstance the world could ever throw at her?

She had begun this project thinking to uncover something arcane and mysterious, and in a sense she had done just that, but what she had actually found was so much more of both than expected that it made her initial ideas look like cheap parlor tricks. And yet the mechanics appeared so...simple. Power that retained its potency sixteen years post-mortem and accomplished things that should be impossible...through a simple request in prayer, coupled with a childlike trust that the Lord had already done it? Was this what she was now looking at?

The combination seemed too good to be true but here she was, a young woman forever altered by a man she could barely remember. Mom would never believe what she had discovered. Neither would Dad. But Iris or Tyrell might.
