"28. Surrender--Allies"
Yep. Persistence was definitely one of his hallmarks. The opening notes seemed to announce that he had cornered his audience and the steady boom of single drumbeats suggested bombardment, like heavy artillery battering the fortified walls of Constantinople.
From the day you are born / There's a battle going on in your soul / Comes a time in your life / When you gotta give somebody control / This is it; the time is now / And the change should be like day and night / It's so hard to hold out / But it's easy when you give up the fight
All your life He's wanted you / He's cared for you, I'm telling you / Now you know He loves you so / Surrender / Surrender
You can't stop love like this / It keeps going even when it's denied / It's no use to resist / And I can't imagine why you would try / It's a fight you can't win / 'Cause the power of His love is so strong / Let it loose, just give in / And you'll finally find the place you belong
...
If you think what you'll gain / You'll see that you've got nothing to lose / If you count all the cost / It will never match what He'll do for you / When you give all your life / That's when He'll give your life back to you / If it means peace of mind / Then surrender is the best thing to do
...
All your life, He's wanted you / He died for you, I'm begging you / Now you know you can't go on / Surrender...
The music had suggested enough, but the lyrics... Was her mind playing tricks on her, or were those words likely to prove prophetic? She was starting to connect the experience of hearing these songs with that strange memory of the pickup truck bound for Mora and its oddly compelling prayer in a tongue that she couldn't understand. Were those two things related? Then it hit her: all of this music was familiar.
She had never heard them with her physical ears, but these had been the songs that she heard in his memories. These had been the songs that he used as a catalyst for prayer! His rawest passions and concerns had been poured into this medium, honed to a laser focus, and beamed straight at, even through his present and into the unknown future, where they were burning into her this very moment, a full sixteen years post-mortem. The hair on her neck stood up. This was wild enough all by itself, but it wasn't over yet! What more awaited her? Was it even possible to get more intense than this?
