Chapter 17

SV16

Upon waking, Sophia had the remnants of a song floating in her head. That familiar baritone had been singing again, but this time she had caught some of the lyrics.

The world around us in a rage
Newspapers tell of fear on every page
The prophecies unroll
Unravel and unfold
End times, last days, end of the age
Satan strikes with deceitful power
Seeking and searching whom he may devour
False prophets too arise
The signs are in the skies
The sands run down
Earth's final hour

But you have come into the Kingdom
For such a time as this
To fulfill, you see, the destiny
For your life
Special plans and preparation
For this generation
You have come into the Kingdom
For such a time as this
Such a time as this
This is it

God placed His special gifts in you
Believer, fight for what you know is true
Tempted to compromise
Cast down unholy lies
Courageously stand up for the truth

'Cause you have come into the Kingdom
For such a time as this
To fulfill, you see, the destiny
For your life
Special plans and preparation
For this generation
You have come into the Kingdom
For such a time as this
Such a time as this
This is it...

She couldn't vouch quite as passionately for the rest of the lyrics--not yet, anyway--but boy, did those first two lines ever hit home. Rage and fear were running rampant. These days, if any given person wasn't angry, there was a ninety percent chance that s/he was scared. Most people thirteen or older were both. Iris and Tyrell were blessedly weird that way, being neither.

Were these lyrics part of an answer to her question the night before? Were they a hint about what she should do with the knowledge that she had just gained? It was hard to say for certain, but these lyrics struck her as important enough to be worth recording just in case, so she put pen to paper and wrote them down. She then texted them to herself for ease of retrieval. That being done, she was now wide awake and ready to sink her analytical teeth into that playlist. Safely recorded, the mystery lyrics could wait.
