Chapter 14

SV13

After a moment of silence, she resumed reading. "Matthew 6:5-6", it said.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Below, she read:

Nám fis paat námba ittrioda fáit. Qobla uzav lirravem, neka azavem.

She saw a church service, slowly winding down into prayer. All who wished to be prayed with or over were invited to come forward but she remained where she was, quietly drawing on the Spirit from her seat. "Ah, I see a mighty man of God," the guest speaker said, walking up to her. Hands were laid and a current filled her belly. Her mouth sped up and words came pouring out. Her conscious mind didn't understand them but her spirit recognized them as definite, not gibberish. The speaker chuckled. "He's like a sleeper car. You wouldn't know it by looking at him, but there's power underneath!"

She saw the interior of a pickup truck on its way to Mora, Kenneth Hagin playing on the stereo. It had been years since she had sat under this kind of teaching and she had begun to wonder if she could still know that she was actually praying in tongues and not merely rattling off nonsense. Then as the message started winding down to closing music, she touched her forehead and the power hit. Instantly she was ridiculously happy and the words shot out of her mouth like bullets. Ah, there it was... No doubting now. It was like a wheel of electricity was spinning in her right temple, throwing her into hyperdrive.

The rest of the way there, she couldn't stop laughing along with the congregation. Even as she stopped at a gas station to fill the tank, she was still chuckling. Gas was more than three dollars per gallon but as she filled the tank, the pump stopped counting at $7.22. She checked to see if the pump itself had stopped too but no, it was still giving gas. When she finished filling up, she told the attendant about it and neither of them had seen that happen before. She ended up getting the rest of the gas for free.

She heard music, again in the truck, playing on the stereo while she passionately sang along, day in and day out. She was believing for something big, something practically impossible. She didn't know when or how it would happen, but she knew it would happen eventually. God's word never returned to Him void and she could feel the power building in her spirit that would one day move that mountain.

 ***

Her eyes widened. There was something about that crescendo that made her feel like someone had walked over her grave. What exactly had he been believing for? Whatever it was, it had been titanic and she couldn't shake the feeling that it had something to do with her.
