You are tired in a way that sleep cannot fix.
Not the kind of tired that goes away after a good night's rest — though you can't remember the last time you had one of those either. This is bone-deep tired. Soul tired. The kind of tired that comes from holding everything together for everyone around you, for so long, that you've forgotten what it feels like to just… put something down.
You wake up already thinking about someone else. You go to sleep running through the list of everything you didn't finish. And somewhere in between, you show up — for your job, your family, your community, your kids, your parents, your neighbors — with a smile on your face and "I'm fine" on your lips.
But you are not fine. And deep down, you know it.
The question isn't whether you're strong enough to keep holding it all. You've already proven that. The real question is — why are you the only one holding it?
I wrote this chapter for the woman who handles everything — and handles it well — but hasn't stopped long enough to ask herself why it all ended up in her arms. That woman might be a mother, a caregiver, a professional, a daughter, a community pillar, a business owner. She might be all of those things at once.
She might be you. She is definitely me.
What Is the Invisible Load?
The invisible load is everything you carry that doesn't show up on a job description, a calendar invite, or a to-do list. It lives in your mind, your body, and your spirit — and it is relentless.
