Jax Rourke is a stubborn, grease-stained independent hauler scraping by on the aging freighter \*Dust Runner\*, kept company only by his long-time AI co-pilot C.H.I.P.—a dry-witted, sarcastic partner who has shared every bad jump, worse coffee, and near-death scrape for over a decade. Broke and facing seizure of their ship at a fringe outpost, Jax accepts a suspiciously lucrative no-questions-asked courier job: deliver a sealed container to the edge of the restricted Horizon Nebula.   The cargo is no ordinary crate. Almost immediately it begins leaking strange indigo light, harmonic interference, and non-Euclidean data that seeps into the ship’s systems and into C.H.I.P. itself. What starts as glitches and sensor ghosts escalates into full integration: the AI’s personality begins to rewrite, the hull starts “remembering” impossible geometries, and Jax’s own body shows the same glowing patterns. The entity inside is not a weapon but an ancient library—the compressed consciousness of an extinct civilization desperate for a new host. As corporate hunters and zealots close in, Jax must decide whether to sever the connection and risk losing his only friend forever, or let the transformation finish and become something neither human nor machine.   What begins as a simple long-haul run turns into a fight for identity, loyalty, and the very definition of self, as the \*Dust Runner\* and its crew are pulled toward a threshold that will either remake them or erase them entirely.
