We needed to move; we would have to figure out this mystery later. I grabbed Sophie and followed Lucian and everyone else back to Viktor's house. Once we reached the SUV, I placed Sophie inside and turned to Lucian's men.
“Take Valentina and Sophie to the safe house, Lucian, and I will catch up with you later.”
There was a voice I didn't recognize...at first. “No need.”
I turned, raising my gun at the intrusion. He lifted his hands and spoke again.
“No need for that, Reggie. I'm here to help.”
I lowered the gun a moment, looking at the guy when he stepped into the light. It was Vince, head of the Westside Kings.
“You come here to gloat?” Lucian asked, stepping closer to Vince.
When Vince moved closer, I jumped between them. “What do you want?'
Vince took a step back. “To make peace with the new head of Kingsfurd Row...” He glanced at Lucian. “Go, mourn your father; my men will finish up here.”
“Wait,” I grabbed his attention. “This was you?”
Vince nodded. “Yes, the Vypers had no honor, and what they did to Don...planned a meeting only to ambush him. It was cowardice, at its finest.”
Lucian side-eyed the man. “I assume the help means we won't be at war anytime soon?”
Vince shook his head. “No, I have a son to protect. I want Carmine to live and prefer more peaceful negotiations.”
I stepped up and shook his hand, but I had a question. “How did you find out about any of this? I only found out an hour ago.”
Vince sighed, “I wish I had found out sooner and could've stopped it, but I called his phone and Donavon answered. I hung up immediately. I didn't need to ask questions.”
Lucian and I shared a look. I wasn't completely buying his story, but he had just done us a huge favor by saving our lives.
Vince handed Lucian a card. “Call me in a few days; we'll need to talk. But first, tend to your fallen. My men were instructed to place your father in his bed for you.”
Lucian nodded. “Thank you.”
