Chapter 19

My Prince

The Princess felt a sudden jolt of pain in her head and neck after jumping out the window, and then everything went black. She could tell she was still on the ground, but it was as if she were trapped in something thick and gooey, like play-dough or pudding. Not entirely uncomfortable, but too dense to move freely. She should have been afraid, but the strangeness of it all made fear impossible. Why hadn’t anyone ever told her that something like this could happen? She would have wanted to try it sooner if she’d known — but that was probably why no one ever had; nothing fun was ever permitted.

A white dot appeared in the distance. She stared at it, unsure what else to do. The dot danced around for a moment in the darkness and then slowly began to grow.

Interesting, the Princess thought. She wanted to chase it, but she wasn’t sure she could move — or could she? The more she stared, the stronger she felt. Pushing through the gooey darkness, she rose to a sitting position. Despite everything else being blacked out, she could still see herself. To her surprise, she was wearing the most beautiful white princess gown she had ever seen. She touched the fabric to make sure it was real — and it was.

The white dot brightened. It grew larger until she realized it had taken the shape of a majestic white horse with an elegantly dressed rider. The Princess stood, ready to meet them. She knew they were coming for her — and she was right.

As the horse and rider drew closer, the pudding-like darkness faded. In its place appeared a beautiful forest, lit by fluttering fairies, each shining with its own tiny light. The horse and rider stopped before her, and the rider extended a hand, looking into her eyes.

“I knew you were more than just a Clyde.” She giggled as he helped her up behind him.

And off they rode.
