​Dr. Elena Ross expected a standard research mission, but nothing could prepare her for the day Earth's atmosphere became an active intergalactic warzone. Without warning, a blinding ionization storm erupts across the valley, shredding her river convoy and forcing the survivors to flee into a hidden jungle canyon. Guided by Captain Marcus Burke, a hardened military escort, the remnants of the team seek shelter inside what appears to be a monolithic stone ruin.

They quickly discover it is an entrance to a massive subterranean hub—part of an ancient, automated planetary defense network left behind by a long-lost alien race known only as the Builders. The computer system is a malfunctioning military network executing a corrupted protocol. As the hub seals them inside, its automated scanners detect a rare Precursor marker in Elena and Marcus's DNA, registering them as authorized operators.
